The City of Tampa has launched the Homeowner Disaster Relief Program to provide financial assistance to homeowners affected by the 2024 hurricanes, Helene and Milton. With $3.2 million allocated from state funds, this initiative aims to support residents in repairing and restoring their homes.
Program Overview:
The Homeowner Disaster Relief Program offers three types of assistance:
- Insurance Deductible Assistance: Up to $10,000 to cover insurance deductibles.
- Mortgage Assistance: Up to $5,000 to aid with mortgage payments.
- Cost of Repair Assistance: Up to $20,000 for essential home repairs.
Homeowners can apply for one or more categories, with a maximum total reimbursement of $20,000 per household.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Own and occupy a home within Tampa’s city limits.
- Have an income up to 140% of the area median income (approximately $133,000 for a family of four).
- Provide documented proof of damage from Hurricanes Helene or Milton.
Priority will be given to lower-income households, with 30% of funds reserved for those earning 50% or less of the area median income, and another 30% for those earning 80% or less.
Exclusions:
The following properties are not eligible for assistance:
- Manufactured or mobile homes.
- Properties outside Tampa’s municipal boundaries.
- Second homes, including rental properties.
- Homes with existing liens or judgments.
